Weekend Update with Yours Truly

It's Sunday night again. I've resigned myself to this being a startling unproductive time period, but it's still my favorite time of the weekend. Basically, I spend all week planning my weekend. I make lists of all the things I want to accomplish, and look forward to catching up on all the stuff from the week I couldn't get to. Then when the weekend gets here, the productivity is basically hit-and-miss. No matter what, I never get everything done. But I don't think it's my fault. I think that we as a society set ridiculously high goals for productivity, and are setting ourselves up to fail, and have learned to incorporate the resulting guilt into our lives, such as by letting it predict our future shortcomings.

Grad school is excellent at this. The coursework is incredibly demanding, and for some, it becomes increasingly unrealistic that you will ever accomplish everything you set out to do. I'm not excusing my shortcomings, but I am validating all my minor accomplishments are success in themselves. Sunday nights, therefore, are the most successful. It gives me a good outlook for the next week.

Saturday was rainy and grey, but not cold. I went to the farmer's market in the a.m. and it was raining so much so hard, that vendors were bailing out floolded parts of the market with buckets. I bought salad greens, raw local honey, and a loaf of asiago cheese artisan bread and scampered home. Meghan and I made plans to get together and she suggested playing raquetball. Walking to campus in the rain in gym clothes was about the last thing I wanted to do on a rainy Saturday (ok second to last, only to homework). Oh, and all the buses in the university district don't run on Saturdays when we have home games. Technically, they do run but only to take people to the football stadium. But whatev the walk was good for me.

Anyway, I didn't have anything to worry about because racquetball kicked ass. We were actually not bad, and even volleyed pretty well for a while. The facilities are really nice -- there are tons of racquetball, handball, and squash courts, which really impressed me. They even had those little doors to go into them, like doors on a submarine. They're small and seal off flat so they don't injure you if you run into them while you play. It was neat! Anyway I didn't embarass myself, which is always key. And, when we walked home, the rain had stopped and the sun was out.

Today I found out I have the Girls Next Door work-out video on Exercise TV on demand. I worked out my buns and abs with Bridget!

I did lots of Arabic homework. We have our last quiz before the final on Wednesday, and I need to do really well on both to do well in the class since I tanked it on the mid-term. مالش!

Other than that, I've been watching lots of The Office. It's my new obsession. I had Seasons 1-3 on my netflix list, then realized I could watch them online on the website with my free hours every month (you get 1 hour for every dollar you spend on your subscription every month - I pay $13.12 so I get 13 hours free viewing time a month. It's a pretty good deal b/c they have some TV shows and a few good movies. It's great when you're in between DVDs). Basically, having internet in my apartment is the greatest thing ever and I don't know how I survived without it. Anyway, I totally love that show. Some episodes are pretty good, but there are a few that are CRAZY funny and make it worth watching. Also, I have a huge crush on Jim + Pam. I KNOW, right?

Other points of interest:
  • 23 days until I go home!
  • I got pretty bummed out the other day thinking about not knowing the next time all my friends will be in the same place again. I know that those of you who moved away over a year ago are over this, but I'm still dealing with it. :(
  • All those fights I've had with people over dirty dishes were pretty much the biggest waste of time ever.
  • I'm back on AIM, if anyone else is still using it -- add me as TatumAbra or KSeaFace
  • I'm totally bummed that most the The Hills is staged and scripted. I'm still gonna watch though.
  • Pray for Matthew Campbell if you get a chance. He might be getting a heart today, but things are complicated.
  • I just watched the movie Lovely & Amazing, and it was Okay & Pretty Good But Not Great

I still don't think all those fights I had with people over dishes were pointless. Is that bad?

No. It's just that I realized I still have the same fights with myself now that I live alone.

I'm the one who always leaves out the dirty dishes. I'm glad we didn't live together longer than a month and a half :)
