It's my blog's 21st post. It's officially a privileged adult now.
Today was back-to-school day. I went in to work at 8am this morning (ok, 8:15-ish), only to discover that Monday's are my mornings off, so I could have slept in an extra hour, at least. Son of a bitch! Ah well. I stayed and worked a bit anyway, since the first week of the quarter is crazy in the advising office and they were training a new student worker. I left around 9:45 to go read in the library. I'm supposed to finish a book by my first anthropology class meeting tomorrow. So far, not so much.
I went to Suzzalo and sat in the 3rd floor reading room, which is actually quite grand. It's got long reading tables and is silent reading only, 24 hours a day. There are gorgeous stained glass windows and these crazy black iron chandeliers (not chandeliers, but the medieval-hangy lights that used to have candles..you know).
I read until class at 11:30. I went to Arabic and it was CRAZY because everything I learned last quarter evaporated over the break. Not good. It was rusty. I'm taking that class pass/fail.
Had lunch with Amy in her office in the admin building. All the women in her office are menopausal so the air conditioning is always on high. We bitched about Arabic and I felt better.
At 1, went back to work. The office was crazy busy, and I barely had time to facebook. Somehow I managed. Helped what felt like a thousand people fill out forms, get add codes for classes, turn in applications, and schedule adviser meetings. I also got to use the dinosaur of an electric typewriter that we keep in the office (next to our manual pencil sharpener....). It was So fun! I think I want one now -- an old typewriter, but not an antique. There's something romantic about how boxy and noisey they are, and how they don't multi-task at all, and how they punch each letter individually.
Jim brought in these chocolate truffles that were a-mazing. They were dark chocolate and Isweartogod that I think they had sea salt in them or something because when you bite into them, they like sent like glitter explosions in your mouth.
I got to leave work at 4 (I'm totally digging my new work schedule) so I was home before the sun set! Yes! Sooo much less scary. On the walk to school and back I listened to NPR movie reviews and GG grammar lessons on my ipod. I think it really made my day better because I wasn't stressed out when I got home at all. It makes the walk faster and I can block out some of the road noise.
For dinner I made spaghetti. I was talking on the phone with Roxie at the time, so I just kept adding more things to it without really noticing. I had fresh veggies I bought yesterday so I added mushrooms, onions, bell pepper, onion, and turkey meatballs. Lindsey came over and brought me my packages that she intercepted while I was gone. It was excellent Fiestaware mugs, pitcher, and tumblers, xmas presents from both Kristin AND Roxie! Success! Lindsey and I made plans to work out on Sat. morning then go to the paint store so I can finish the last wall in my apartment. I'm thinking chocolatey brown. I might be able to make it work on a wall in the kitchen too..
Finally got to empty my camera onto facebook, mostly for your amusement. Now I can take more pictures! Some might end up here eventually.
My anthropology class meets tomorrow. I was supposed to finish a book before then, and I'm only about 2 chapters in. It's rly good though so I might get through most of it tonight. It's about religious violence in India, I think, and it's impact on the....something.. I'll get back to you.
I'm still recovering from how awesome xmas break was. I have never need a vacay so badly, or had such an awesome one. It was everything I wanted it to be. It was hard to come back.
Oh, and Geaux LSU!
