It's only day two, but I'm going to go ahead and profess my love for summer school. I'm totally in love with summer quarter, and I don't care who knows it.

My German class is freaking fantastic. The vocab is super super easy compared to my last language class (Arabic), the teacher is super great, and the grammar rules are...nonexistent. I'm actually a pretty big nerd for grammar rules, but not having to learn them for this class is a huge relief. Basically, we learn basic vocab and to practice reading and translating texts. Today we did a *little* bit of Faust I. This also means NO pronunciation worries, and NO listening practices. I'm totally into it.

So I have German class in the morning, then I work in the library doing research for the Jackson School. This week I've been down in the Special Collections room in the basement of the library looking at old OLD yearbooks and course catalogs to dig up info on the school and how it got started. It's one of those rooms where they have to buzz you in, and you can't bring anything except looseleaf paper and pencils. No folders, books, binders, or ink pens. I wanted to just make photocopies of the pages I needed, but when I asked, they said the fancy copier they have to use for fragile books is broken indefinitely. Apparently it's broken and no word on when the part is coming. Their suggestion? Setting me up in a room with a digital camera to photograph the pages I need, with special lighting and stuff. Hmmm. So I've been making notes and copying entries by hand -in pencil- for about 4 hours a day the last two days.

But other than that, it's been really crazy looking at old pictures of college students from 1914. The women all wore those crazy high hair-do's, with ankle-length skirts and high collared shirts. Apparently the sophomores and freshmen used to beat the crap out of each other in these organized events once or twice a year (the guys anyway, the women didn't participate). Most of the same buildings are still around campus too, which is neat. Learning about the school is pretty cool, and I'm having fun getting paid to nerd out.

When I got home today, the weather was gorgeous. Seth and I walked to Trader Joe's and bought stuff to make dinner. We orginially set out to hit Quizno's but decided this was probably cheaper and healthier. We took a long, windy way home and got to browse the neighborhood for vacant apartments. At home, we made salmon and spaghetti with yummy sauce. Also, my produce delivery came today and it had AWESOME stuff in it (summer-y things, like squash, tomatos, grapes, spinach, and avocados), so bonus :D
