- Passed the first half of German :D
- Doggy-sat and house-sat a very impertinent shih tsu, Bella, while my friend Amy went adventuring through Turkey and Syria for two weeks with her mom.
As a thank you, Amy brought back for me an assortment of Turkish jewelry from the market that she bargained for a good price, and a very pretty blue hookah with flowers painted on it. So fabulous.
We went to the Ballard locks, where there are these gorgeous flower gardens and you can watch the boats come in and out of the sound. I didn't get any good boat pictures, but here are some of flowers.
- And, perhaps best of all, I turned 24. My birthday was on a MONDAY, which was fairly depressing since I had class and work. But when I got home in the afternoon, I had three HUGE boxes waiting for me that my mom had mailed from home that had a few much-missed items from my former life, including...
...MUCH needed ice trays that Roxie gave me as a going-away gift OVER A YEAR AGO. ha ha.
..the most offensive yet tasteful mantlepiece of all time..
...and most impressive...THE bowl. My lovingly hand-crafted Christmas/birthday gift, custom designed by two of the most creative people I know. Now in one piece, in my apartment!
- Seth is on a crazy Cajun food kick. Last night we raided QFC and stocked up on all sorts of seafood, and for dinner he made artichoke and oyster bisque. AMAZING. Today all day he is making seafood stock, the base of which is this:
FISH BONES. Can you believe they just give these away for free at the store?!? ha ha.
The guy at the fish counter wanted to give us a whole box. He seemed really grateful. The people in line behind us all thought we were going crabbing.
Instead, Seth is making shrimp creole, which I plan to complement with bloody marys.

Are there recipes for these masterful creations? Although I am from Louisiana, I sadly never learned how to cook ANYTHING and I refuse to learn from cookbooks because that would be sacrilege. Any tips that Seth has would be GREATLY appreciated.
Funny you should ask! ha ha Seth just started a blog to keep up with his recipes. He uses this amazing cajun/creole encyclopedia for a guide. Anyway, he just started keeping up with it online and it's here:

Me too. If I wasn't so inept with a camera you would be enjoying the many varieties of roses of the Pacific Northwest. Your rose center ladies would be so happy!
I totally love that all three of those present came from me at some point--so i kind of feel less shitty for not getting you a b-day present because, in a way, thanks to your mom, i totally did.
I know..my mom was glad I had packed my own bday gifts too. :D And um, I don't have very many knick-knacks that DONT remind me of you. ha ha
