Another new layout...I like doing things seasonally, I think. I sort of decided that when I can afford it, I'm going to use different colored Fiestaware dishes for different times of the year (mostly because I like all their colors, but not all at the same time...different color combos for different times of year, all fiesta all the time...makes sense to me).

Anyway, school and work are definitely in full swing. I got my own office! It's really tiny, but still bigger than everyone thought it would be. And I have to say that it seems to have gone from a point of ridicule to an object of envy by everyone who stops by...ha ha. It's small, but the ceiling is REALLY tall (not exaggerating, like 20 feet), and I get a mega tall but skinny window. Pictures to come, obvi. The best part is that I feel really productive in there...I might put in extra hours just so I can get some homework done.

Seth and I went to a dinner for his work, some sort of bi-monthly "elite dinner" they have for employees and locations that do really well. Usually it's just employees, but this time spouses/significant others got to come. It was SUPER nice, with all the guys in suits (and no Seattle "formal fleece" anywhere!) and at this incredibly nice and yummy restaurant on the lake. The food and drinks were free (butternut squash ravioli!), I got to dress up, and I met Seth's work buddies. :D Seth kept telling me how pretty I was, which makes me realize how little I dress up and wear makeup anymore, poor guy. ha ha. It was really fun.

So, tell me what you think about this. You know the mean lady at work? Thursday I woke up with a really bad sore throat, ear aches, and the whole thing, so I called in sick to work. Well, I emailed my boss, but forgot to cc the mean secretary and the other assistants in the office. They didn't get the memo that I was out, and apparently had to reschedule all my appointments at the last minute for me. I got a semi-stern email from my boss (he doesn't get stern-stern) about calling in next time instead of emailing, in case he was out (which he was) and the secretary didn't get it, etc etc. Ugh, I felt so dumb. Anyway Friday when I went in, the mean secretary chewed me out for about 10 minutes --the first thing she has said to me in 4 weeks, mind you-- about how what I did was wrong, and how I made her look bad, the office look bad, and myself look bad and that next time I NEED TO CALL because even though she isn't my boss, she's the important one in the office. And then, in the middle of all that, she brings up that I said that I hate when she tells me what to do (which I never ever said, what I said was this really off-hand comment LAST YEAR about how whenever I come to her desk she says, "Are you looking for something to do?" But it was a joke, because I thought we were cool, but she took it totally wrong, and I ALREADY apologized for that. It doesn't matter because it was LAST YEAR, and anyway who gives a fuck, what, am I trying to take her job?? no.). So apparently that's what's been bothering her since I started this year?

Anyway, there wasn't anything I could say, except that I knew, and I understood, and I was sorry, etc. The weird thing is, after that, she stopped being a bitch to me. Like, she got to tell me off so we were cool again. It was also the same day I got my new office, so maybe somehow that plus me getting in trouble made her world make sense again? Like maybe she's mad I'm getting my own office and she isn't (even though hello, if she got her own office, she couldn't help people who come in), and me getting in trouble evened things out? It was almost like she was looking for a reason to confront me about whatever has had her pissed all month, and now that she did, she can be normal again. I have no idea. But I am glad it's over.
Sheesh.

This lady is getting on my nerves and I haven't even met her....I don't understand how people think they can be rude and treat people poorly....don't they know there are crazy people out there and that if you were crazy you could totally poison her coffee....geeze be nice people.

I know, right. It's so lame. I usually hate confrontations with people but it was like, *sigh* whatever. And then I went in my new office and closed the door. Ha.

And for the record, you should always assume the person you're dealing with is crazier than you.

FYI: when someone in my office is sick, they just email whomever they want to and don't tell the people they don't like--so like, tough cookies for you if the person you have a meeting with out sick and no one tells you.

But we all just shrug it off--i.e. vent about each other behind each other's backs. I have the most NON confrontational office ever and it's great. Everyone's all "I appreciate you as a PERSON." But like, totally sincerely.

Anyway, I'm glad that her world seems to have normalized. The whole point of my story was that someone like that would have been FIRED in my office.
