tick tock

It's pretty s-l-o-w at work right now. Most of our office is out at a conference, and the rest of campus is in this weird mid-winter-quarter malaise that falls between the start of classes and the registration period for next quarter. Aka, the perfect time for me to get work done.

Except I don't have any.

It's also the perfect time for three of the major offices on campus to move into new buildings, so that's what they're doing. So any work I have involving event services (80% of my daily work), human resources, and....somebody else....is not do-able. But I don't really have any work since everyone is out.

Anyway, I recognize this as the oh-shit period of time when I would usually remember some big project due for a class by the end of the quarter, and realize how far behind I am on it...except that such projects don't really exist for me anymore, and that's sort of a huge relief. And if you know me, you know I prefer freedom and goof-off time to freak-out time anytime.

Which is why I've spent most of the day picking out new things for my apartment that I'm positive I can afford one day, making new and healthy grocery lists, going for coffee, and tweeting. And the sun is out, which makes the office feel less like a cage, and all these things feel productive, not procrastination-y.

Anyway, I'm also homesick like crazy today (which I notice happens more when it's sunny here), and jealous of everyone going to homecoming, and mad at myself for not saving up for plane tix for this weekend 8 months ago like I told myself I would. But mostly I really want a king cake and some crawfish and a daquiri (THIS IS WHY I'M FAT).

Sigh. I miss you. Let me know when you're coming home, so I can plan to be there and at least see you long enough to get a drink or something.
