berries and wine

it's summertime, and even though it's only about 85 degrees outside (which is NOTHING in La this time of year), it's also about 85 degrees in my apartment. Which means that I haven't had the motivation to put pants on all day. Sorry, TMI.

Luckily, it also means I am motivated to do non-pants-required things, like update my blog with pics from our trip to the berry farm!

So, weekend before last, Lindsay, Catherine, Elizabeth, Laura and I trekked out to Monroe, Wa. to go berry picking! This gals all live in my building and hanging out with them is a blast. Anyway, Catherine and Lindsay go berry picking all the time to make jam and other foodstuffs.

So, we drove about 45 minutes out of the city, and before long we were in the middle of what felt like nowhere. Monroe is a tiny town (it's only street is actually named Main St.), with farms and cows and goats. It was weird how much it reminded me of South Bossier. I only got a little homesick. This is the farm we went to:

So cute. Oh, and it was pretty gorgeous there:

So, this is me, hard at work. I picked four pounds of berries, which turned out to be way too much:

This is my bad-ass neighbor Elizabeth. She got 4 and half pounds of berries. We had a very long convo about sex while picking berries. lol

Here's Catherine (with her awesome cleavage). She didn't want me to take her picture so Lindsay grabbed the camera and sneak-attacked this

Here's Lindsay. This was supposed to be a scenery pic, I swear I wasn't checking out her butt.

Ha ha here's a cuter Lindsay pic ("Why are you taking pictures?!")

Yummy, berries! (Apparently these are what marionberries are. They're smaller than blackberries and not as sweet. The red ones were not as ripe. I ate like 2 lbs of them while we were picking).

Oh, and did I mention it was gorgeous??

After the day of picking, everyone met at Lindsay's and made jam. I think I went shopping instead. A few days later, I did make cobbler, though....it was the kind out of the box..

Look at what a good listener I am. (p.s. Elizabeth has a story about everything. She's really cool)

Jam! (it was this times a million, srsly)

After the jam, it was a roof party (like most nights tend to end up). ha ha. I finally got a good pic of Laura!

This is my awesome 70's hair. It was dark up there, I swear.

This girl on the left is Heidi. She just kind of appeared on the roof, and she was really really drunk because she just got back from a wedding. I've never met here but I think she lives on the third floor. She was out of control but kind of funny (when Lindsay was talking about an article she read in Runner's World, Heidi laughed really loud and goes, "PSsHH Runner's World?!? I read Walker's World! ha ha ha ha!").

Anyway it was a pretty fun day. I only used about half my berries for the cobbler and had to throw the rest out. The craziest thing is that I saw Lindsay about 3 days later, and she was like "yeah, Catherine and I went back yesterday....I got 17 more pounds.." I was just like, wow...that's a lot of jam.

There is a blueberry / blackberry farm in Haughton where you can do something very similar. The scenery is not as nice and neither is the weather, however. But if you are ever back in S'port it's still lots of fun!

Yeah! My mom and I used to go pick berries there when I was little. This totally reminded me of that...I think that's a huge part of why I liked it so much.
